Nava Grunfeld

WORKSHOPS

NAVA GRUNFELD'S SATURATED WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS IN THE UNITED STATES AND MEXICO.

Nava Grunfeld's workshops are small and designed to challenge the beginner and experienced artist alike. Students will learn how to gain control of the medium; create clean color and compose well-designed paintings. Working inside the studio, students will learn my approach to creating luminous, saturated watercolors. We will work on the elements of color, technique and design using various exercises and painting from still life objects.

You do not have to know how to draw for this class (although if you do that's a plus). You do need to come with an open mind and a willingness to learn how to see, truly see. At the end of the week you will leave with a year's worth of work to do on your own and the confidence to unleash your personal vision with watercolor.

"I have gained so much by thinking and applying what you shared with us, and I know the impact will continue for a long time. I really appreciated the commitment you made to our group."

--Mary Hardegen, Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society

ABOUT SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, MEXICO:
San Miguel de Allende, (Photo: G. Gaskins)
Nestled in the Sierra Madre Mountains, 6,400 feet above sea level is the Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende. It is in the state of Guanajuato and is about 3.5 hours north west of Mexico City. San Miguel de Allende is rated one of the 10 top foreign travel destinations by Conde Naste Traveler Magazine and is considered one of the most beautiful places in Mexico. This is why this colonial town has been attracting artists and writers for decades. Founded in 1542, it was declared a national monument in 1926. Here, old churches tower over cobblestone streets, fountains; bougainvillea covered walls and enclosed courtyard gardens. The sound of church bells echo throughout the town and the Jardin (center square) is filled with music. Inspiration is all around, from the beautiful faces of the young and very old to the architecture. Breathtaking vistas and sunsets. The average daytime temperature in February is 74 degrees and usually blue skies every day. As though that wasn't enough San Miguel is filled with wonderful restaurants and offers many cultural activities from lectures, concerts to dancing, cooking lessons and the hot springs nearby. You don't even need to speak Spanish as English is spoken everywhere. San Miguel has inspired me for years and I want to share it with my students. Leon Airport is only 1.5 hours away and is recommended.

    RECOMMENDED LODGING:

This former hacienda turned hotel is a favorite among my students and guests. It is where we will hold our workshop. Lodging includes a complimentary breakfast in a bougainvillea filled courtyard. A special rate of $70.00 per night is offered to my students only. It is centrally located and a five-minute walk to the center of town. No matter where you choose to stay, a door-to-door shuttle is available to and from Airport at the cost of approximately. $50.00 round trip.
